    Did those 65 % of patients with thrombus have another type of central line prior to the PICC placement? 
 
Funny you all talking about this today....I had just this incidence happen to me today.  I usually assess the vein prior to insertion up to the axillary vein....The patient had a subclavian removed the day before; but on the opposite site.( I chose the opposite side just in case there was thrombus....cause we weren't sure how long that line had been in place)  But it appeared there was just this problem......awaiting on the Upper extremeity venous doppler results.
