CT Scans

Our hospital is now using one of the new CT scanners that requires the
patient to have an 18 or 20g catheter inserted.   Of course, not all
patients have a vein that can support that catheter.  Plus, our CT techs
are requiring that the catheter be AC.  How are other hospitals handling
this situation?  Any protocols to share that go along with this new
scanner regarding required IV access?
