Could it be that the daily dressing change is moving that needle and
increasing the bleeding? How about using some of the hemostatic
dressing materials like Gelfoam or Surgicel? Lynn

pt had port on 5/11, accessed on the same day.
has been bleeding around the needle since then (pt has
bleeding disorder, on twice a day transfusion).
we put gauze around the needle to absorb the drainage
and daily dressing change, only change the needle once
a week.
a daily dressing change is pretty hard on a 5 years
old; also wonder if the practice is too frequent.
any suggestion?
