My mind was asking the same question before I finished reading your
email.  I hadn't heard of this product, but it seems possible/probable
that the site wouldn't make for long.  After the successful stick, the
vein would return to it's pre-vasoconstricted state with a catheter now
in it.  The flow of blood around the catheter would be minimal if the
vessel was too small to access in the first place.  Then again, isn't
that what we do with a tourniquet...I love it when I talk out an issue
to myself in front of an entire listserv : )

was told the patch is expensive. pharmacy asks me to
'select' patient population.
one selling point is the heat effect of the patch.
but it's approved for >3 y.o.; how useful is that?

my question for the rep was: with vasodilation from
the heat, a piv is able to be inserted into a
otherwise small sized vein. (here is another selling
point of the patch -- increase piv success rates).

does that piv last though?
