I agree.. We do 48hr initial dressing changes because the site has healed much better and less bleeding.  I believe that the "guidelines" used to say 24 hours for a gauze dressing and then over the years changed to 48 hrs....but the PICC community has stuck with the 24 as the manufacturers did not change via their instructors.
