We have been using betadine ointment when D/C enntral line. I recently
checked the CDC guidelines and they don't recommend an antibiotic. But
I will continue to follow INS guidelines.

Hello,

I need help!

Is there any documentation out there that state when you D/C a central
line, you should cover it with vaseline gauze or antiseptic ointment? I
know there are stipulations on the procedure such as supine/trendlenburg
position and valsalva maneuver. Should using Vaseline gauze or
antibiotic ointment be part of the policy? INS recommends an antiseptic
ointment. Is this what everyone is practicing?

Thanks
Donna
