We don't wear a mask, but we use our custom CVC Dressing kit that allows for accessing the port using sterile technique (sterile gloves, Chloraprep, skin prep, steristrips, sterile 2X2 gauze if the wings of the Huber needle need support, transparent dresg). I feel very strongly that it must be sterile technique. Any contamination at the time of accessing will colonize that port with bacteria. It is nearly impossible to eradicate bacteria, particularly the staph species, once they have been introduced. Bacterial colonization must be prevented with each and every access. It is consistency of the highest level of care that will preserve this device for the long term.

When accessing implanted ports, what is the current procedure nowadays? Sterile or "clean"? please share with us your procedure. We understand we are in the dark ages because we still do it as a sterile procedure? We need to have dialog with our manager.Thank you!
