Michelle & Susan, The Bone Catheter Securement Device is a
very innovative product that virtually eliminates the catheter pistoning back
and forth out of the insertion site which is exactly what Dr. Maki recommends
in reducing CRBSI’s. It is the only product to be able to offer
this and can be used with any and all lines. The Por-a-Cel breathable membrane
is shaped like a bone to eliminate the corners peeling up like a band-aid after
a few hours of use. The adhesive on The Bone is an alcohol based adhesive
called DermaFLEX. Therefore, wetting the membrane with alcohol and
allowing it to sit for about 30 seconds will dissolve the adhesive and allow the
device to be easily lifted off the skin. This is a lot easier to do than
the Statlok. One thing that some of the nurses are
doing is to use an alcohol swab to wet the membrane. The amount of
alcohol in an alcohol swab is not enough to dissolve the adhesive. You
must saturate the membrane with liberal alcohol and allow it to sit for about
30 seconds. If you were to follow this manufacturer recommendation, you
won’t have any problems. Sincerely, Shawn Hong McCormick Medical From:
