Mark---my hubby gets his changed every 4 wks because infection risks and granulation issues. He also has the permanent stoma. He also has psuedomonas a. bacteria in permanent residence in his lungs. Our dr indicates that changing the trach every 4 wks actually CUTS DOWN on infections. I guess it is the individual dr's professional opinion that decides. We have certainly had fewer difficulties and infections going with the 4 wk schedule change. hope this helps a little in rationalizing what is going on. S in MS
