[VENT-L] trach changes

My son Mark has his trach changed every week so I was surprised to read the posting from those of you who don't change your trachs very often.  Mark has used a portex trach, uncuffed, with long phalanges for 6 years and now all of a sudden that model had been discontinued.  He tried a different portex trach and also a Bivona trach and both were very uncomfortable.  Anyone have any suggestions?
