We change Molly's trach once a month. She has used a Portex cuffed for
years. They recently discontinued the neck plate style. We are now having
problems finding a trach that will work for her. The new style portex
caused a sore on her stoma and granulation tissue. We have tried Rusch,
Shiley, Portex, Bivona. We are looking into custom made ones now. I wish
they would have notified us that they were discontinuing them, we would
have stocked up. When it comes to site problems, I think it makes a big
difference if the trach has a good fit or not. We use an inline
suction(Ballard), it stays connected to her trach all the time. It reduced
her infections to almost none.
