Vault's basic function is to manage offsite tapes. If you ship tapes off to Iron mountain or some other destination, vault makes it easy to manage ejecting the tapes, creating audit reports etc. From your set up with the VTL capabilities, the SLP route is probably the best source for actually creating your tape images.
