Vault was originally a project done by the Veritas Professional Services organization. There's nothing in there you can't do with a lot of scripting. The point of Vault is you don't have to script it all like doing the duplications, managing the ejects and injects, updating the EMM database with the location of your tapes, FTPing reports to Iron Mounting, etc. If you think what you need to do is easy (and you may not use all of Vault's features), and are willing to support it yourself and can do so for less cost than Symantec wants to charge you, go ahead and script it.
