Did you try run bpclntcmd prior to the upgrade?

I also noticed the 64 bit and 32 bit change but wouldn't have thought it would 
make a difference

What seems to "stick out", is the target OS is 64bit (vs the original 32bit OS) 
.... and the problem only shows up after a "good" catalog restore ....
