You'll need to reboot if the disks are managed by the "sd" driver and the lun/target id were not in sd.conf since last reboot. Updating sd.conf online is *generally* not possible with Solaris 8 because you can't unload sd driver due to bootdisk management. Solaris 9+ offers "update_drv -f sd" command to override this.
If the boot disk is not managed by sd driver, you can unload sd driver but it requires to unmount all filesystems which are on disks managed by sd driver : this is quite equivalent to a reboot scenario.
