Hi Leigh - it's because Veusz only updates every second or so to avoid CPU load if several things are being modified on the plot. This time is adjustable, however. If you right-click on the plot, you can adjust the update time on the "Updates" submenu. I should add an extra embedding command to change the update frequency from a program, or force an update immediately. This would be pretty easy to add if you'd find this useful.
