As well you should. If you look at the patent, you'll see that basically what they do is to use cellulose (micro)fibers as structural filler, substituting some carbon or glass fiber. Since vegetable cellulose fibers are by necessity short, they cannot be used as basic fiber reinforcement (like carbon fiber or glass fiber) in structural tubes, only as secondary reinforcement, such as the whisker rods that Daiwa used to make, which used silicon carbide microfibers. The main accomplishment these guys made was ensuring a way to select the cellulose fibers from the pulp such that they get a well defined and consistent quality, but IMNSHO, it is a gimmick more than a real 'breakthrough'. Using carrot fiber, as opposed to multiple other possibilities, as described in the patent, is also a 'gimmick'.
