You throw too tight a loop. You've got to have a big wide sloppy looking cast so the indicator doesn't fall onto the line and tangle. >I fished a small sz 18 midge the other day using my fly line as an indicator. And that's the way I prefer to fish midges too. The only time I 'bobber-fished' was with a guide.
