Allan,
That is the way I feel. I feel like it is cheating. I get a lot
of satisfaction by watching the tine end and I decide if I have a hit or not.
We all have our own ways of fishing, do what pleases you most.

You throw too tight a loop.   You've got to have a big wide sloppy
looking cast so the indicator doesn't fall onto the line and tangle.

And that's the way I prefer to fish midges too.

The only time I 'bobber-fished' was with a guide.  We did have a 100+
fish day, but I felt like I was not fly fishing.
