Don: Do you see a swap for us tyers who don't use a lot of dubbing? And substitute newer materials for dubbings listed on recipes for certain flies? For example, I used to tie the Adams with muskrat, which was the original material. Now I use Krystal Dub or Ice Dubbing (or whatever it's called) which is easier to use and buy. I used to have a whole muskrat skin. I gave half of it away, and hardly look at it now. So, I don't use large amounts of materials, and small "sample" sizes would suit me very well.

Start with common ones- fox, mink, badger, possum, rabbit, squirrel. Once you master those, try others, like chinchilla, seal, PB, etc. *One is not limited to Moscow. I found another place with good deals: http://www.flytyingfurs.com/products.htm It's going to take someone to volunteer to meister, then swappers can be shoppers, and then wheeler-dealers (adding their own stocks) "I'll call your kit muskrat 1/4 and raise you a hare's mask and some squirrel blended dubbing." And rope-dubbing makes working with furs a whole new deal, anyway. Getting fur-on-skin allows you to hackle flies with the guard hairs (once you master the tip-rope and the butt-rope). Guard hairs pulsate like soft-hackles but are more durable. The dubbing sequence for your fur flies averages 50 seconds, less with practice.
