Same thread: I have asked the VFB on a previously occasion about ants and
spiders and wasps and hornets and bees. I know that fish will feed on them,
because you can find their remains in the fish when you pump its stomach or
clean it. (I always open the stomach of a fish I am cleaning.) But it seems
to me that some of them will get a bite or sting into the fish before it dies.
Does the stomach of a fish have nerve endings? Don't they feel it? If they
do, you would think that they would avoid all of them......

Re: [VFB] Ant swap flies arrivedChuck,

Do the gills eat the fire ants if you toss them in (via a shovel)?

I've done research and some believe some fish are turned off to ants because of
the high levels of formic acid. Others say the acid in a fish's stomach is
stronger and breaks the formic acid down.

I know all about them fire ants. It was a secondary reason my dad moved to
Wyoming (leading our move). He was very allergic to fire ant bites- would go
into shock.

I should have made that giant "Bammy Ant" red in color though, cause we have
those huge "far ants" here. Now you get a few of those down yer britches leg
and you'll be "dancin a jig" LOL, Chuck
