Wayne, Thanks! It's a 4wt, 2 piece, 7'. Calls for a 4wt DT line.

Since these rods are all hand-made and different, should I see if I can try out
different lies to select one that casts the best?

Thanks for the info on the reels. I'll start shopping.

Storing this email in my 'Tony Tiger' rod folder. (the rod's name- my only rod
with a name)

  Hi DonO;

What size/weight is the rod? Is it perhaps a 7', 2pc SirD 4wt?

If so, that's a fairly light/fast rod, finding a classic reel that will
balance it will be a challenge, you need a fairly light reel which classics
typically aren't unless your talking a Hardy lightweight which can be a bit
pricey even a used model, perhaps a Hardy LRH or Princess if it'a the rod I
think it is. I ended up using a Daiwa 730 for my SirD, a real nice classic
real that's fairly light and happens to be a Hardy clone.

As far as lines, Tony recommends AquaNova DT line that Global Dorber sells. I
have one for the SirD Tony helped me build and I liked it so much I purchased a
couple more for some of my other rods. The best part is there realy quite the
bargaiu at around $20.00. Otherwise, I'd recommend a Cortland Peach or Hook
and Hackle Rise or Hi Floaterm, again a DT.

  Don O;

If you have the money, the Lamson Lightspeed is a great reel for what you are
telling us, one that is befitting such a good quality rod.
I believe it is made of titanium and has a wonderful drag system.
It is a little pricey, but a very good quality reel.

  Thank You,

Just a little bragging- but fishing related.

I got my new bamboo fly rod late last week, and from none other than Tony
Spezio himself. Who-hoooo! It's really special to me, and I know how much
effort went into it and how long it took because Tony has been recovering from
some problems the whole time he was building it. He sent me photos of the
progress all along the way, and it was amazing to see all the techniques and
his mastery of the craft.

I don't have to tell you how well the rod is crafted, as it's from a Hall of
Fame Catskill Bamboo Rod-builder! Trust me, it is gorgeous- not overstated,
just a classic beauty. But I did ask him for a spiral twist rod, and it worked
out perfect. It has a lot of back-bone for punching flies into the Wyoming
wind. And it has one of my #32s glued into the wraps at the handle, and my
name on it, plus his of course, and a serial #.

He made me promise to fish it, so it will be a dry-fly only rod for those
perfect sunny afternoons on Wyoming trout streams. No wet-fly beads will be
dinging this baby.

Now I need a classic reel to match such a rod, and the perfect dry fly 5 wt.
flyline. Should I look for a light weight antique reel worthy of this reel
seat? Any ideas? Are lines for bamboo rods different than lines for graphite
rods? Underweight a line size? Overweight a size? Is there a bamboo taper
dry-fly line?

And then I need an early spring and some hatches.
