I know what you mean Chuck, We have had that problem a few times when on
holiday, normally about the beginning of may.

That is amazing that there can be THAT many bugs in one place. I remember
when I lived in the FL panhandle, and my father in law had a houseboat on Lake
Okeechobee about 500 miles from where we lived, and I'd go with him to fish
sometimes as he ran commercial catfish trotlines. Anyway, there is a little
1/4" or so long, little black bug called the "Love Bug" cause all they did way
fly and mate in the air, then drop to the ground and die. But anyway, you'd be
going down I-75 and they would be soooo thick that the air would be black. And
you'd have to stop at EVERY exit to spray the bugs out of your radiator if you
didn't have a bug screen on your car so that the car wouldn't run hot, Chuck

Subject: [VFB] Mayflies in the morning
This morning the upper level of the clinic/hospital parking lot had a few
hundred clones of the one Chuck found on his lampshade. Several were still
moving, but most had died during the night. La Crosse, WI is kind on famous
for large mayfly hatches. There have been some instances where the snowplows
were brought out of hibernation to clean up the bridges. Several years ago a
new resident parked his convertible under a street lamp with the top down. In
the morning he had about 10 inches of mayfly bodies in his car. They smell
like fish. I don't know what he did to salvage his car. Last night's hatch
was a minor one.
