I have my nippers and hook hone on a 8" cord with a dropper loop in the middle.
The loop is attached to a zinger. When I tie on a fly and clip the tag end of
the leader, the hone is right at hand as a reminder to touch up the hook point.

I read an article that suggested that many fish were lost
due to slightly dull hooks. This author carried a file and after a period of
nymphing would resharpen the hook. I am not as diligent as I should be on
checking that and it sounds like my mentor Tony isn't either.
