My big regret is my rod-winder that I had from Herter's. Someone borrowed it. We had a rod-building class and I took it. Everyone was admiring the rod-winder. I put it in the top of my cardboard box full of rod-building junk, When I got home, it wasn't there. Someone must have borrowed it and forgot to bring it back.

I've still got a couple of spools of thread that have a Herter's label on them. They're probably about rotted out by now.

I still have the first Herter's rod that I built. It was a bait-casting fiberglass rod that was as sensitive as a bamboo - a full-flex rod. You could feel every little bump in the grip. I should replace the guides on it, they're starting to look pretty skuzzy.

I still have some stuff from Herters from back in the late forties. I am saving what I have in my original wood Cigar box that was my flytying box. I still have my Thompson "B" vise that I bought for 2.50.

That really DOES date you. And I thought I was getting myself
'dated' when I found some stuff from a fly shop that closed in 1985.
