I have a free sample 100m spool from JStockard, of the 16/0 black, and it
is as if two smaller-diameter threads are twisted to form that 16/0. It is
a whole lot stronger for size than other midge-sized threads that I have
tried. (I can't say that the others are 16/0 or the same denier, but it is
far thicker and far stronger than Caenis thread, about the same diameter as
spiderweb and much stronger, and I find it about as strong as uni 8/0
despite being far thinner of a thread, but then I use an Ekich bobbin with
automatic retraction of the thread so that may be protecting the veevus
from snapping.)
I love the thread and feel it is worth its price (and that's when I pay for
it, not just when it is a free sample...) because I still have trouble with
wrapping more thread-bulk than I need to tie a fly. This thread helps me
by reducing the amount of thread buildup that happens when I tie. Not the
perfect answer (that being to fix my tying and just wrap less thread
wraps), but an answer that works nevertheless.
Tight wraps,
-Pete
