Alan: That's what I did (sorta), on the ones I have done to date. I take strung hackle, which has pretty good sized quills, and is all different colors, and I strip all the barbs off and use that. The chartreuse green ones looked the best I thought. It's just a pretty slow process, but like you say, it does work. Chuck

A couple of years ago I was in a swap and tied some Mosquitos.

I took a smallish grizzly hackle and pulled all the bards off both sides
and used it for a quill body.
CHEAP and functional.
