Joyce, I’ve married wings for salmon flies and for classic feather-winged flies- but only for non-fishing. One fish and the wing is just mixed color barbs- unless you cement it together.
When I marry wings for salmon-flies, I cement the last 1/8th inch flat with tweezers as a tie-down point, plus let a small amount of cement travel up the barbs, which will be covered by the cheek feathers. Probably not what you learned in class, but it works for me. I am thinking that this will not be a regular thing for me. Good to know, too time consuming and costly for a regular fly. I think that a lot depends upon the suitability but not necessarily the quality or cost of the feathers. As I went to tie on the married wings, they promptly fell apart..think they were divorced or something, and the whole thing went shief ( kaput, south). So, any hints on tying feather wings to keep them upright and not falling apart..I'd welcome them. Joyce -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VFB Mail" group.
