Yeah, that’s how it goes. Some ppl love vanilla ice cream, and some love chocolate (I love BOTH). But I too, would go back to Guderbrod if they fired it back up for fly tying as well. Seems like it was about the best “all around” thread there was and it was a shame they shut it down. I can get all the Guderbrod “coat material” I want, because there is a sewing factory only 10 miles or so from us and they make Joseph E. Banks suits, which is a high dollar suit, and that’s all they use in those is guderbrod thread. But I tried it back when my wife worked at that place and they’d change out those huge “cones” of thread and she’d get the left overs, which still would have 500-1500 yards of thread left on them. I tied a few thread bodied flies like ants, and black widow spiders, but otherwise it’s a TOTALLY different thread from that that they mad for fly tying. Chuck

I would tie with Gudebrod if it comes back, like that one a lot! I “swear by” Danville’s Fly master plus. I’ve heard others say they wouldn’t have that “cheap stuff” in their tying room. “Find, send it on to ME” is my reply LOL... I use 6/0 on bluegill flies, and 3/0 on bass flies. Exception to that is that when I’m tying thread body “fire ants”, Flying blac k ants, and Black widow spiders, I use “Big fly” size “B” by Uni products. Works for me. I know pp who swear by Unithread sizes 3/0 and 6/0 but I wouldn’t habve that in my fly tying room. #1 it’s too expensive for what you get, and #2 if frays wayyyy too easily for my taste. So, I guess it’s like girlfriends/boyfriends, wives/husbands in that “beauty it in the eye of the Tier er, uh Beholder” LOL.. What works for Bill may be the very thread John swears at. What works for you is the one you want. Gary -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VFB Mail" group.
