I have been fascinated by fish and their environs since a small child. I begged my parents to get me some fishing tackle and eventually, I received a hand line for sea fishing comprising of a lead weight and 3 hooks separated on wire booms. The line was wound around an H shaped handle and one stripped line onto the ground and then whirled the weighted hooks around and let go towards the sea. My father didn't fish, but I believe that I have a deep instinct that makes me want to fish.
I don't think that you can make someone into a fly fisher person unless that person either has that deep instinct or interest and is not aware of it. I know people that take up fly fishing and are very gung ho, only to lose interest and to move on to something else.
