I have seen Jack do this a long time ago. I do not have his book anymore to look it up. Sorry I sold my book collection. It was a long time ago that I saw him do that so I really don't remember how he did it.

When Jack Gartside tied his Soft Hackle Streamer he used a mallard flank feather to finish it off and had a special way of folding the feather as he would say, "so that its barbs flow smoothly over the marabou and do not stand out "spider-like" and willy-nilly from the shank"

Is there anyone out there that has perfected this technique. I have tried several times with spider like and willy-nilly results :) Any Suggestions???

Tight lines,
