My first 'fly rod' was a converted cane pole- ala 'Tenkara' rod, around 1963.
Fishing bluegills in S. Louisiana was a very short distance affair, so at first
it had no reel.
So I guess I was 50 years ahead of my time with the first bamboo Tenkara rod.
Caught a lot of turtles in the drainage canals, too.
