Hello Jack:

What are you planning to use the rod for? Do you plan to use it in saltwater? 
What fish are you going to target with it?  
Not sure exactly what you mean by "Not sure how to size the fighting butt for 
the reel seat. Is there any difference in function between an inletted cork and 
one that is not??” 
A fighting butt can be either fixed or screw or plug in to the bottom (lower 
end) of the reel seat and is used to keep the reel away from your chest when 
fighting large fish. Re cork inletting, are you referring to the top of the 
reel seat which is often hidden under the cork of the handle?
