"The research suggests that angling for largemouth bass at colder temperatures 
(less than 60 degrees F) may cause greater physiological stress than at warmer 
temperatures ( greater than  60 degrees F).  One possible reason for this is 
that bass at colder temperatures are further from their metabolic optimum, the 
researchers say.  Other factors such as prey availability, reproductive status, 
 or gut fullness could be involved.  They conclude that fight intensity is 
likely not a major driver of physiological stress of largemouths using typical 
angling gear, due to relatively short fight times."
