John, I use the HMH attachment but I have taught people using a variety
of simple, homemade devices. However, for spinning deerhair on a tube
(tubes make great Bombers) the double holding power of the HMH
attachment (taper at the front, knife-edge at the back) makes life
easier. All tools are the same and tube tying is no different from tying
on a hook shank. Cheers,
