How many flies I lose per trip depends completely on where I'm fishing and what I'm fishing for. If I'm fishing from the beach in the Gulf of Mexico, I rarely loose a fly unless I hook into something too large for me to land (which happens about once a year). If I'm fishing for bass or panfish, I considered it a good trip if I only loose three or four flies. I have lost a dozen flies in a four hour trip several times by inaccurate casting and ending up decorating cypress trees. I tend not to lose the flies in the fish!
