Bob,  I live/fish/hunt in the Titusville area. (That's about an hour southeast of Erie.) An early-season nymph pattern you can't go wrong with is what we call the "Flash-Back Fuzz". It's a Hare's Ear shaped nymph that's easy to tye and lethal in the spring. Come to think of it, it works all year long. At its best when the water is up and a little colored. I'll type up the recipe/instructions and send them to you off-list.
