 Merle,        I have just started making my own.  Something I found to be of great help is the Conair Hair Braider.  It allows me to make the leader in one piece.  I have been using nylon sewing thread or 2 pound test fluorocarbon line.  The book micro patterns has some great directions & sketches of various types of furled leaders.  Hope this helps. Bob H
