OK, folks critique time... This is my first attempt at a stonefly nymph. I
really don't have the right materials yet but I had to try anyway. Take a
look if you have a moment and please feel free to comment. Here's the link.

    BILL,

I don't wanna burst your Bubble, so please bare with me. First off if your are thinkin' of entering the Shadow Box/Realistic Swap...practice that Stonefly nymph afew more times & you'll be good to go. If you had plans to fish that Nymph...take it from a re-formed Realistic tyer...it will look oh sooo fake in the Stream or River... There's no materials that move or Pulse with the ebb& flow of the Water...Thus passing off as somet ing ALIVE. Yes, Stonefly Nymphs do have 6 legs...but Trout never made it into Grammer School, let alone graduated from Harvard with a Masters in Leg counting on Bugs... they simple cannot tell if your nymph has 6 legs or 60...

Please keep tying those Realistic Nymphs & dryflies....as they will improve your overall tying...I see difinite Potential in your tying for great things, go for it!!!! "show Flies" are always fun & at various Shows everyone coming thru loves to look at them... For Your Actual Fishing...stick with patterns that have Materials that move with the Currents, more legs than Nature intended & for Stonefly Nymphs Simple as Hell to tye. Your Very Realistic Nymph probally took you AT LEAST 20 minutes to tye right??? Well if you fished Correctly in some of the Sierra Nevada Rivers I fish often...you'd be lucky if that fly remained on your line for 20 minutes. To fish Stonefly Nymphs correctly you have to be tagging bottom often.. For Fishing Stonefly nymphs stick with : BOX CANYON STONE, BIRD'S STONEFLY NYMPH, BROOKS STONE...My YUBA STONE..anything tahat does take longer than 5-6 minutes to put together. that way when you snag the bottom you won't have a panic attack when you break off the very realistic looking stone fly nymph.....
