This was a clear SA Mastery "Stillwater" type of line with a mono core. It
is possible to break these, especially when trying to cast too far and
overpowering the forward stroke of the rod. If the timing is off, the line
can crack like a whip and snap. This is what happened in this case. The
cutthroat trout were just out of reach!

What exactly, can one do to cast so incorrectly to damage flyline?  Is he
practice casting on to concrete a lot?
