I have done this based on Tony Spezio's single feather marabou damsel fly. I think that the fly looks bigger in the water and therefore more of a meal for the predator. I think I get less of the small fish when it is tied like this thereby leaving more time to fish for the big uns.
BTW Some of my family members have picked up a glass of water only to find a fly at the bottom! Good conversation starter.

Was curious the other day and tied a few patterns by folding the marabou fibers over to form a wing on a fly. When the fivers are to long I tie it in fold the end over toward the tail from the head and bind down. I then tear the ends so they are near the same length.
Put them in the tub ( my wife did not ask) and pulled them thru the water beside a fly tied conventially. The marabou seemed to move diffently.
Anyone tried this on fish?
