100 words or less is a tall order, but here it goes:

vinyl polymers (polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl
chloride) are named for the monomers they are made
from, -ene denoting a double bond.  During the
polymerization process the double bond is opened to
make the linkage between monomers.  Thus in vinyl
polymers there are only single carbon-carbon bonds. 
To actually get a polymer with some double bonds in
the backbone you either have to start with a monomer
containing a triple bond (also known as an allkyne or
acetylene).  Ring Opening Metathesis Polymerization
(ROMP) actually resulted from trying experimental
catalysts made for olefin polymerization (for which
they worked but not as well as known catalysts,
usually) on unlikely ring structures containing a
double bond, making unique polymers with double bonds
in the backbone.  As far as I know there are no
commercial products made via ROMP as yet.

I'm sure I've exceeded my hundred words.  By the way,
I 've got plenty to do...I'm just at home and ill
today.  Now I've got to write a test for my class
tomorrow.
