KEITH,
Here's at least 3 versions of the Picket Pin, since it's been around
since the early 1900s I'm fairly certian there's alot more
variations...
PICKET PIN
Hook = 3X or 4X streamer/Nymph, sizes #4-10
Thread = 6/o Black.
Tail = Golden Pheasent tippet fibers
Body = Oval Gold Tinsel
Hackle = Brown, tyed as a Collar...May also tye it Palmered
Wing = Grey Squirrel tail...extending to end of tail
Head = Peacock herl
This version is in Terry Helleckson's "FISH FLIES, Vol.1"..The more
popular version from what I can gather..
PICKET PIN
Hook = 3X or 4X Streamer/Nymph, #4-12
Thread = 6/0 black
Tail = Golden Pheasent Tippet fibers
Body = Peacock Herl
Hackle = Brown, palmered 4-6 times over body
Wing = Grey Squirrel, to end of tail
Head = Peacock herl
This is the version I'm in favour of using, Learned about it years
ago.
PICKET PIN (Bloody Butcher version)
Hook = 3X or 4X , #4-12
Thread = 6/0 black
Tail = Mixed red & Yellow hackle fibers
Body = Peacock Herl
Hackle = Mixed red & Yellow Hackle, palmered 4-6 times over body
Rib = Fine gold wire
Wing = Grey Squirrel tail, to end of tail
Head = Peacock herl
This is probally the least known version I'm aware of...but I should
think it would work just great for Steelhead.
Hope this helps,
DEAN...
