This reminds me - I have SCUDS on my list of flies to tie next month. There
are a lot of scuds in the Merrimack River in NH and I plan to give it a
shot. I have seen countless SCUD patterns but without on stream success, I
am hesitant to put a lot of effort in any one pattern.

Are there any testimonials on killer patterns / and techniques? I would
very much like to hear them

(I am thinking of one with woodduck fibers for the tail, pearl Ice dubbing
for the body base, scud olive ostrich herl over the dubbing, gray scud skin
shellback with mono rib...) I am sure that there are simpler patterns that
are successful. That is what I am looking for.

Thanks.

Two days until Wisconsin's early catch and release barbless hook season.
I've been tying Mercury type midge pupa flies (I need new glasses!) and
some
scuds. Predicting 30 for a high on Saturday.
A friend of mine asked me if I was going to participate in the "Polar
Plunge".
(A local charity event ) I laughed and said I hoped not. But I will have
a dry
change of clothes in the car just in case I do have my own Polar Dip.
