The length of the hackle should be about the length of the shank of the hook so it flows back over the body. I mostly fish lakes, and I've caught trout, bass, and panfish on this fly. I like it with a black body and dyed olive or natural hackle, Chartreuse with grey hackle, or tied black with a green butt (ala the green butt skunk. I think Bill's site is down right now.
