Jeremy, The only way to know which rod is better for her is to place both in her hands and see which she likes better. This whole conversation is academic without that information. As you are building the rod, you'll have to find finished stock rods for her to try; the custom rod should be similar.
Beyond this you are playing a guessing game -- one that could very well turn her off to fly fishing.
