Retrievers do make good dubbing.
I have a friend who has a little less of a dog now.
Yes, after a while everything looks like tying material.
My brothers laugh at me. He knows when I'm eyeing
something up for potential material.
There was a thread a while back about alternative tying
materials and tools. Here are some of the ones I recall:
- Different colored foil wrapping from chocolate candy 
- Anti static packaging from any electronic device makes great flash backs
- The disk, in a floppy disk, for shellbacks, legs and wings
- Dryer Lint for dubbing
- The glossy white fibers from fiberglass cloth
- Webbing from a lawn chair
