I think Ross is referring to the argument put forward by some that barbless
hooks can move around more in the point of contact with the fish's mouth
making enlarged holes. This allows in more possibilities for infection
resulting in at the least a disfigured fish. Cant say  have seen evidence of
it. I have however seen fish returned and caught again with ripped lips dure
to the uneducated amongst us not removing the hooks carefully. As for my
preference I use crushed barb hooks. For no other reason than I have yet to
obtain any barbless hooks, rarely fish catch and release and feel quite
happy in using them.
