I have heard arguments that a shorter rod is better
for playing fish quickly in as much that you have more leverage.
As for tippett size have you tried fluorocarbon? I
am using 10lb breaking strain measures .35mm and as it is virtually invisible in
water has not yet affected my hookup ratio compared to lighter more visible
tippet. The fish can still be played quickly without to much fear of
breaks.
