I suggest having someone watch you while you cast both ways to see if you change the mechanics of your cast when you rotate the reel.  And try it with the reel 90 degrees the other way too.  And how many beers had you drank when you started casting?

       To be honest, I had 1 (or was it 1 six pack?) Either way, I went to the pro shop and did just that with one of their high dollar rods. Casting stroke and everything was fine. I was casting OK with the reel on the bottom, but I was great when it was on the inside. I decided not to worry about it, I mainly use a side cast anyway. I can get under the overhangs that way and I can do an AWESOME curve to the left side.
